Google Debuts AI‑Powered Audio Overviews

Hear your search results before you click

Google is testing a new feature called Audio Overviews, now live in Search Labs for U.S. users. Powered by its Gemini AI model, the tool generates short audio summaries of search results, letting users listen to an overview before clicking into any site.

When enabled, some searches will show a “Generate Audio Overview” button. Once tapped, Google creates a brief audio clip voiced by AI, summarizing the key points from the top results. Users can control playback and click through to source links directly within the player.

Designed to help users quickly understand unfamiliar topics, Audio Overviews could also impact site traffic if users get what they need without clicking. While experimental, it’s a clear sign that AI and voice-first search are reshaping how content is consumed - and how marketers should think about discoverability.
