My Take of the Week
GrowthHit AI Lab: We’re Inventing the Future of Growth with AI (See how we’re doing it!)

We’ve been quietly building something big: a suite of AI-powered tools designed to supercharge how Shopify brands grow.

Now we’re pulling back the curtain.

In this special live session, we’re unveiling the GrowthHit AI Lab - a behind-the-scenes look at the AI experiments we’ve been prototyping across CRO, ads, creative, and competitive research.

📆 WHEN - June 04, 11:00AM Pacific Time

Special Find: Team Pick

A Simple UX Shift That Changes How Customers Think

Grüns (https://gruns.co/) nails a subtle but powerful UX move on their homepage. In the purchase section, they offer an Autoship option for “1 person” or “2 people” - a clever nudge that reframes the buying decision.

Not only does it increase perceived value and savings, but it subtly plants the idea that this could be for someone else too - a roommate, partner, or family member.

🧠 Takeaway: Reframe the purchase decision to increase AOV and make it feel generous - not just practical. Small UX changes like this can spark big shifts in customer behavior.

1/ Shopify’s AI Summer Drop: What’s New in Magic

Shopify is going all-in on AI, and their Summer ‘25 Edition AI update is their biggest leap yet. If you’re running a store, here’s what just got easier (and smarter):

✍️ AI-Powered Store Building: From Idea to Live Site

You can now describe your business in natural language, and Shopify Magic will generate your product catalog, copy, images, and branding - straight into a working store.

🛠 Ideal for new merchants or launching new lines fast.

📦 Smarter Product Management

Magic now helps manage and generate product info in bulk. Write and update product titles, descriptions, SEO fields - even translate across multiple languages with a click.

🎨 AI Image Generation + Editing

Drag-and-drop product photo editing is here. Remove backgrounds, generate new visuals, and even “inpaint” product photos to match your site’s aesthetic — all in Shopify’s native tools.

🤝 AI-Enhanced Customer Support

New AI-powered workflows let you resolve customer issues using chat-based tools connected to order data, policies, and fulfillment status. Think ChatGPT meets Zendesk — native to Shopify.

💡 Bottom Line

This isn’t just about saving time — it’s about lowering the barrier to pro-level execution. Shopify is building AI directly into your store’s foundation so you can launch faster, sell smarter, and scale with less manual lift.

2/ From Farmers Market to $1.6B Exit — How Poppi Became the It Brand of Functional Beverages

Poppi is a prebiotic soda brand that started as a homemade apple cider vinegar drink and grew into a cultural phenomenon — stocked in over 36,000 stores and acquired by Pepsi for $1.6B. Their rise wasn’t just about health benefits — it was a masterclass in branding, platform mastery, and media execution.

Here’s how they built one of the most beloved beverage brands of the decade:

🧃 The Early Days: “Mother Beverage”

Allison Ellsworth’s gut health journey led to a homemade ACV drink that gained traction at a Dallas farmers market. A chance encounter with a Whole Foods buyer, a Shark Tank deal, and $125K in friends-and-family funding set things in motion.

🎯 The Brand Pivot: Mother → Poppi

Rohan Oza (VitaminWater, Bai) helped lead a rebrand with CAVU Partners — bright cans, fruit-forward visuals, a new name, and a completely different vibe. It moved Poppi from wellness niche to Gen Z lifestyle brand.

📈 Growth Playbook:

  • TikTok viral video (26M views) → $100K in sales in 24 hours
  • Email/SMS engine: ~1,000 signups/day, driven by TikTok
  • Media mix optimization: Streaming, display, and Amazon ads
  • OOH campaigns with influencer tie-ins drove over $1M in sales in a single week

🧠 What You Can Steal:

1. Rebrand around what your audience wants to feel

Poppi’s shift from “Mother” to a bold, fun, fruity identity wasn’t cosmetic - it made the brand accessible, Instagrammable, and emotionally appealing.

→ Don’t just ask “What do we sell?” Ask “What do they want to feel when they buy it?”

2. Let organic virality guide paid strategy

They didn’t plan for TikTok. But when it exploded, they built a team, budget, and influencer roster around it.

→ If a platform drives traction, go all-in with strategy, not just spend. Make the viral moment a repeatable growth channel.

3. Use full-funnel data to unlock scale

Poppi used Amazon Marketing Cloud and Tinuiti to analyze every touchpoint — from video ads to Amazon Subscribe & Save.

→ Invest in cross-channel attribution early. It pays off when you scale, especially with CPG or multi-channel products.

4. Tie offline and online marketing

Their NYC OOH campaign featured influencers whose social posts were later shown on billboards — then re-shared online.

→ Repurpose real-world moments for digital impact. UGC + OOH = infinite loop of visibility.

TOOL OF THE WEEK:
AI Just Replaced Your Fashion Shoot

If you work in fashion eCommerce, you know the pain: expensive photoshoots, inconsistent lighting, and endless coordination to get products modeled properly.

Uwear.ai takes a different approach. You upload a single flat-lay or packshot, describe the scene you want, and it uses AI to generate images of models wearing your product - no mannequin, 3D render, or worn image needed.

The key difference? It’s built on a custom model called Drape, designed to minimize the visual “hallucinations” that often plague AI fashion renders (e.g., messed-up collars, distorted sleeves).

For teams testing new product launches, ad creatives, or PDP variations, this could be a smart workaround - especially when time or budget is tight.

PODCAST: IF I WAS STARTING TODAY

UGC Is Shopify’s Secret Weapon

What if the polished ads you spent thousands on were actually hurting your brand?

In this episode, we explore how real, imperfect content is outperforming big-budget campaigns — and why most Shopify founders are still getting it wrong.

Jim Huffman sits down with William Gasner, co-founder of Stack Influence, to unpack the real power behind UGC (user-generated content) and why it’s become a secret weapon for smart eCommerce brands. From influencer seeding to ad fatigue, they get brutally honest about what actually drives conversions in 2025 — and how founders can stop wasting money and start scaling with authenticity.

Key Topics Covered

  • Why UGC outperforms professional ads in today’s market
  • The overlooked value of product seeding (and how to do it right)
  • How to build a content machine that fuels both ads and organic growth
  • Why creative freedom often leads to better results than tight scripts
  • The truth about influencers, follower counts, and what really matters
