2/ How Fenty Hair Achieved 4.9B Impressions and Boosted Sales Across the Board

Category expansions are risky. Even the strongest brands can struggle when entering new verticals - but Fenty pulled off their Fenty Hair launch with precision.

Here’s how they did it—and how you can borrow some of the same moves.

🗒️ The Setup:

Rihanna’s Fenty empire had already conquered beauty, lingerie, and skincare. In 2024, she launched Fenty Hair—after 5 years of development. Why the long wait? The team wanted to create a truly universal haircare line that worked for all hair types. Once the formula was right, the focus shifted to building a campaign that matched the ambition.

✍️ The Execution:

Fenty created an immersive brand world called “Mane Street” to anchor the entire launch. It included:

  • High-production events in LA and London featuring stylists, red carpet interviews, Rihanna’s hairstyle history wall, and branded cocktails
  • Salon pop-ups in NY and LA with personalized influencer appointments
  • A Selfridges takeover (first-ever for a hair brand), plus regional activations in Birmingham and Manchester

All of these moments were carefully designed for maximum social media amplification—with influencers, stylists, and press sharing from every angle.

📈 The Results:

  • 395M organic social impressions
  • 4.9B earned media impressions
  • “Explosive” Day 1 sales
  • Sister brands saw up to 2x lift in sales during launch month
  • #1 most talked-about hair brand on Instagram during launch month

🧠 Takeaways for Shopify Brands:

  1. Fenty built every activation with Instagram in mind. Think backwards from your best channel and make sure every asset fuels it.
  2. Took longer to launch? Own it. Use that timeline to show intention, care, and differentiation.
  3. Fenty Hair was new - but the inclusivity message was familiar. If you’re expanding, keep your brand DNA front and center.
